Black Bears

Caught In Trash
1st Place Winner World Taxidermy Championship Denver, Colorado
This young bear actually died by being caught up in trash. It is important for people to watch what they throw away. Those plastic soda bottle holders are lethal to animals and birds. I've even see pictures of fish caught in these things. You would not believe the amount of trash that is in our waters, that most people don't ever see. I have been a scuba diver for many years and helped haul out pickup loads of trash out of the waters of the Maine coast.
There are quite a few pictures on this page below. I do lots of bears!
About one bear in twenty has a white patch on their chest. Sometimes it is small sometimes it can be large. In fact, Black bears can also be all brown instead of black! These are called cinnamon bears. The bear above has a really large white V.
You can see the scar on the shoulder of this bear which was caused by rubbing on a tree or something. The man that wanted this bear mounted decided to leave the scar alone. On bears a scar of this type I can usually fix so it cannot be seen when mounted.
The bear below is a 440 lb. Open Mouth Bear Head - It's a Big Bear !

The biggest black bear I ever mounted was a 630 lb. bear shot in Greenville, Maine. I mounted it life size for an out of state customer.
Maine has the largest population of black bears in the country. In fact the population is now growing out of control and the fish and wildlife department is concerned as there are not enough bears being harvested.
364 lb. Open Mouth Black Bear
The river seen behind the bear is painted on the wall of my museum room. There are well over 100 mounted birds and animals in my museum part the building. This is the largest taxidermy studio in Maine. Many people visit each year just to see the animals. I've had 100's of school kids in groups here in the past!
I call this my "Flying Bear"
I can mount a bear in just about any position you can think of !
This picture is a close up of the climbing down bear above. You can see how natural the detailing is of the face! I make sure all of my mounts are as life like as I can possible make them!
